Prefabricated underground waste container systems are modern waste collection solutions designed to meet hygiene, safety and aesthetic requirements together in urban waste management. The system consists of a reinforced concrete body located below ground and standard municipal-type waste containers placed on a steel load-bearing mechanism that operates within this body. As a result, accumulated waste is no longer visible and the urban fabric takes on a cleaner, more orderly appearance.
Thanks to the prefabricated production approach, the reinforced concrete body is prepared under controlled factory conditions and allows rapid installation on site. During emptying, once the connection with the refuse collection vehicle has been made, the mechanism rises in a controlled manner, and the containers are lifted out, emptied and placed back in the chamber. This arrangement reduces the need for conventional above-ground container areas that take up a large amount of space, while making the operating routine more predictable.
Typical Areas of Use
- City-centre pavements and squares
- Areas around mass housing developments and residential estates
- Shopping centres and commercial areas
- Parks, recreation areas and seafront landscaping
- Shared-use areas within schools, hospitals and campuses
Key Advantages
- A more orderly cityscape: As the containers are located below ground, visual pollution is reduced; only the waste disposal point is visible above ground.
- Hygiene and odour control: The enclosed arrangement can help to reduce the spread of odours; performance depends on the frequency of cleaning, maintenance and emptying.
- Rapid emptying arrangement: With the controlled rise of the mechanism, the containers are emptied quickly and the system is made ready for use again.
- Safe-use configuration: With a top cover structure suitable for pedestrian traffic and a controlled operating principle, the aim is safe use for both users and operators.
- Strength and service life: The reinforced concrete body, designed for soil and pavement loads, works together with the long-lasting steel mechanism; with regular maintenance, the system is intended to remain in service for many years.
Operating Principle
The underground waste container system consists of a prefabricated reinforced concrete chamber, a steel mechanical carrying system and a top cover structure. While offering users a fixed waste disposal point, the system carries out emptying by means of a controlled mechanism.
Waste disposal: Users deposit their waste into the chamber through the top cover or the shaft section; the waste is directed straight into the containers.
Preparation for emptying: When the refuse collection vehicle arrives on site, the system is brought into its operating position by a vehicle with a compatible hydraulic connection and operating characteristics.
Lifting and access: The steel load-bearing mechanism inside the reinforced concrete chamber rises in a controlled manner and brings the containers up to the surface.
Emptying the containers: The containers are lifted out by the operator, emptied into the refuse collection vehicle and then placed back on the mechanism.
Closing the system: The mechanism descends in a controlled manner and the containers settle into their underground housings; the top cover is closed and the system is made ready for use again.
Thanks to this operating principle
- No containers are visible on the surface.
- With regular cleaning and emptying, the spread of odours and untidiness can be reduced.
- Emptying is carried out with compatible equipment and a suitable operating procedure.
- The necessary working area and traffic management are provided during emptying.
