Storm water gully chamber products consist of factory-produced precast concrete and reinforced concrete units used to collect, in a controlled manner, the storm water that accumulates on the surface of urban roads, pavements, squares, car parks and similar areas and to convey it to storm water lines.
This product group covers concrete infrastructure units whose function is to collect surface water and transfer it to the storm water line; they consist of the storm water gully chamber base and the gully chamber shaft. Because control of the moulds, concrete, curing process and dimensions is ensured under factory conditions, the aim is an orderly and repeatable installation on site. While the base unit forms the connection to the storm water pipeline, the shaft units are stacked on the base to reach the installation level. At the top, water can be taken in from the surface through a storm water grating. Final level adjustment can be made with raising elements; the top closure option is determined according to the intended use.
Unlike inspection manholes and property connection chambers, storm water gully chambers are structures whose primary function is to collect surface water. Inspection manholes are used for in-line inspection and maintenance, while property connection chambers form building and property connection points. Gully chambers, in turn, differ from these structures in their function of collecting storm water from road and site surfaces and conveying it to storm water lines.
Typical Areas of Use
- Urban roads and roadsides
- Pavements, pedestrian walkways and squares
- Car park areas and estate roads
- Industrial sites and open storage areas
- Surface water intake points along storm water drainage lines
Key Advantages
- Effective surface water collection: Quickly takes in the storm water that accumulates on the surface and directs it to storm water lines; helps to reduce the risk of water accumulation and local flooding.
- Dimensional and connection consistency: Provides repeatable production for shaft dimensions, water intake openings and connection openings.
- Load-bearing capacity suited to site conditions: The concrete or reinforced concrete shaft is designed taking into account fill and service loads.
- Fast installation: Reduces the need for in-situ formwork and casting; shortens installation time with units that arrive on site ready-made.
- Ease of cleaning and maintenance: Access from above allows accumulated sand and surface debris to be cleaned out.
Structural Components
Gully Chamber Shaft
This is the concrete or reinforced concrete unit that is placed on the base and provides the required height. Shaft units can be used singly or in multiples to reach the site level, and they are designed to transfer superstructure loads to the ground through the base.
Gully Chamber Base
This is the lowest unit, which conveys the storm water taken in from the surface to the storm water pipeline through a side outlet or a bottom outlet. Water coming from the surface is directed over the base unit and transferred to the pipe outlet.
